It’s no secret that I am always looking for “that one” brand/product that will forever keep my acne issues in check, and though I have found many really great and effective products to help heal blemishes as they pop up, the truth is, I want more. I want to be healed. I don’t want to just have a few good skin days, followed by weeks of bad. I also don’t want to spend a fortune on this “holy grail” skin healer either. Clearly, I don’t want much…;-)
Well, after years (and years) of seeking, I think I may have finally found! Cue Hallelujah chorus…
Hey, loves! So, with Halloween looming closer and closer & since it is one of my favorite times of year, I thought it would be fun to do a post dedicated solely to this holiday. 😉
For years, Hemp has gotten a bad rap for being mistaken as being the same thing as its more recreationally used cousin, marijuana, and although the two come from the same species of plant (“Cannabis Sativa L”) there are two major distinctions – scientific and usage. While industrial Hemp tends to produce high levels of the cannabinoid CBD & low amounts of THC, marijuana conversely produces high levels of THC & low levels of CBD. Industrial Hemp also boasts over 50,000 uses (from textiles to clothing to skincare to food & many others), while marijuana is popular for its psychoactive properties, or “high”.
I’ve used Hemp Oil in skincare and it’s one of my favorites – it’s dubbed “nature’s most perfectly balanced oil” because it contains all known 21 amino acids & the ideal 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 (Linoleic) to Omega 3 (alpha-Linolenic) essential fatty acids, the optimal requirement for healthy skin. I’ve also used Hemp seeds & powder in various food recipes as a source of protein.
But it’s the testimonies of Hemp Oil helping to alleviate pain as well certain health issues that really makes this plant special, in my opinion. I was recently introduced to Hemp Health Inc, a company that produces a pure, vegan, non-GMO & federally legal form of CBD-rich Hemp Oil products, as well as a user’s story of how this amazing oil helped her and her whole family.
For so long, we’ve been conditioned to believe that any and all bacteria is bad, & that we need to use products to kill “99.9%” of said bacteria in order to be clean and healthy. This thought process has guided our hygiene & lifestyle decisions for decades – as is apparent by the vast array of anti-bacterial products on store shelves and in many homes*, as well as preservatives in our food and skincare, ventilation systems in our homes & offices – everything that would keep us separated from the microbial world.
The problem with using so many of these types of products, however, is that they don’t discriminate between the bad bacteria and the good bacteria, and as a result, we end up disrupting a very essential and beneficial environment that our skin needs in order to be balanced and in turn healthy and happy.
Yay! It’s finally October! I know it’s like a week into the month, but I’m still so excited that my favorite time of year is finally here! I love everything about Fall and October is my favorite month of the season (31 days of Halloween anyone?).
Another thing I love about October is that it is Non-GMO Awareness Month, something I personally feel very passionate about and love to spread as much info on as I can (you can check out my resource guide here).
Petal & Post is seriously one of my absolute favorite one-stop online shops (read why in detail here), so I was really excited when founder, Jamie MacLean asked me to test out a new brand she’d soon be stocking. Of course, I couldn’t say no! 😉
Green People was first conceived in 1994 when mother (and founder) Charlotte Vohtz was searching for natural products to help her daughter’s multiple skin allergies and eczema. Finding nothing that was truly natural, she began creating her own products and was amazed by the results. After years of product research and development, Green People was officially born in 1997.

Awhile ago on my Instagram, I made a comment about hating to apply body lotion. Yeeeaaah, forget I said that.. Nubian Heritage has completely changed how I feel about that!
With humble beginnings, that began 20 years ago on the streets of Harlem, co-founders Richelieu Dennis, Nyema Tubman & Mary Dennis created a brand that brought the healing traditions of African Black Soap and Shea Butter to their community.
Switching to Green Beauty doesn’t mean that you have to spend a fortune on good quality products, nor does it mean that you have to sacrifice effectiveness. One of the things that I love to do is scour the product world for brands that not only meet all of my “green & clean” criteria, but that are affordable for the average person.
One of those brands is Nature’s Gate, an eco-conscious, clean beauty company that offers cohesive, “wholistic” beauty products for head to toe care, without sacrificing quality or substance.
