Brand Spotlight: Zenmed Review

I’m a member of several groups on Facebook – most are green beauty/living related and a few are not, but the most consistent complaint I keep seeing among the women in these groups are skin issues. Particularly acne. And specifically how to get it the hell under control!

And it doesn’t matter if they are solely using natural products or if they are using completely conventional ones – the struggle is the same across the board. The thing is, even if the ingredients are 100% pure and natural, it doesn’t mean it’s going to work miracles on your skin. And just because an ingredient is synthetic, it doesn’t mean it is going to ruin your skin (or your health) either. Everyone’s skin is unique and sometimes what it requires to get it in line is a balance of both science and nature.

One of my current favorite “mixed” brands is Zenmed – a 100% doctor formulated skin care brand that believes keeping a natural, holistic approach to its products. They use a combination of pharmaceutical grade ingredients mixed with vitamins, minerals, and essential oils that work to balance and heal the skin.

All products are made in small batches by hand to ensure maximum freshness and potency and they never use parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, dyes, irritants or steroids. They are also cruelty-free and use 100% recyclable packaging. Their goal has been minimal environmental impact from day one and they continue to strive to reduce their carbon footprint.

I was sent several of their products to try and after testing them for about 4 months, I’m ready to spill the beans!

My favorite two products of the bunch are the Dermacleanse Acne Mask & Spot Treatment and the Gel Cleanser. These are also the products that I have been using the most consistently and that I would most likely repurchase.

The Gel Cleanser is ph balanced and formulated to be gentle to troubled skin. It removes makeup residue, dirt, and oil like a champ without disrupting the skin’s protective barrier and it helps to keep breakouts at bay with acne fighters like wild thyme, horsetail, and rosemary. My skin feels soft and hydrated after using this and it has definitely helped to keep my skin more clear.

Price – $17

The Dermacleanse Acne Mask & Spotreatment can be used weekly to deeply detoxify or as an overnight spot treatment to help reduce inflammation and speed up healing. Like the cleanser, it contains potent acne fighting ingredients like wild thyme, horsetail, and rosemary, but also includes chamomile, sea kelp, montmorillonite clay, vitamin B5, allantoin, and zinc oxide. I mostly use this as a spot treatment and by morning my breakouts have either cleared up or become way less noticeable.

Price – $24.95

For exfoliation and for when my skin is congested, I like to use either the Glycolic Booster or the Clearpeel. My skin seems to respond better to chemical exfoliation than it does to mechanical and I don’t really have issues with dryness or irritation some people seem to experience.

The Glycolic Booster uses professional grade glycolic acid to slough away dead skin cells. This also contains organic aloe vera gel, comfrey, green tea extract and hyaluronic acid to help fight signs of aging like dullness, lines, and wrinkles. This definitely does seem to improve skin tone and texture, giving a more radiant and youthful appearance.

Price – $39

Clearpeel – While the “Glycolic Booster” is better suited for anti-aging prevention, this one targets acne-related skin issues – blackheads, pore congestion, blotchiness and rough texture. Using natural enzymes from papaya and pumpkin to dissolve dead skin cells and sea kelp and aloe vera to soothe inflammation, skin is left looking more clear and less congested.

Price – $20

Organic Emulsion Toner – This is no ordinary toner. Used after acidic or enzyme peels, this “neutralizing” spray helps restore ph balance to the skin and minimize any post-peel redness. Just spray on the skin after rinsing off treatment, leave on a few seconds and then rinse with cool water. Organic aloe, chamomile tea, and arnica will soothe skin, while hyaluronic acid hydrates and plumps. Used as a normal toner, this helps to remove traces of residual cleanser and impurities.

Price – $26
